DEBO OLUWATUMINU

Debo is a poet, writer, director, facilitator, collaborator and preacher. He has worked across different artistic mediums, bringing a theological, spiritual and pastoral dimension to his myriad collaborations. These collaborations have taken him from Scotland, Germany, Copenhagen, Israel, South Africa and Nigeria.

As director of Agape Productions, he wrote, directed and produced plays featured in different venues across the UK. He believes passionately in the use of the arts to open up conversations about the relevance of 'Christian' thought in the public sphere. This passion led to a month-long residency in Israel working with an Israeli and Palestinian writer, researching the British Mandate recurrent issues of displacement, identity and a sense of home. The resultant production called Seawall, opened at the Akko Festival in Israel in October 2009, supported by the British Council.

Debo works as headwriter and creative consultant for EbonyLife TV in Nigeria, and has also just finished a 6-part adaptation of Cinderella for them. He continues to work with youth groups mentoring and developing new projects.

Debo studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He also has an MA in Writing for Performance from Goldsmiths University, London, and an M.Litt. from St. Andrews University, Scotland in “The Bible and the Contemporary World”, and is a strong believer in making the values and principles of the kingdom relevant in practical terms, both in Kingdom of God, and within contemporary culture.  He is associated with the Institute of the Imagination, Theatre and the Arts (IITA), and the African Theatre Association (AfTA), based at Goldsmiths College, London. Debo is also a member of the Society of Authors.
